The Lost Tourist - 40 miles out of Bahia LA!
This guy waved us down 40 miles out of LA Bay at about noon. He had walked from Bahia San Rafael since the afternoon before when he and his uncle got their Toyota Tacoma stuck in a boggy back bay: 13 miles. Chilly night with no moon! Nylon jump suit, no water, Gilligan hat, walking stick, cotton socks, sandals. Poor English, no Spanish. No map, of course. Dazed and confused. We gave him water and gummy-bears - he passed on the salty jerky! Two miles down the road from their truck -- the other way -- is a settlement with a "llantera" and a cafe. We doubled him up on the "600" back to the truck where a Mexican was earning his keep building rock roads out of the muck and mire. The Toy was buried to the bumpers!
The next morning they were gone.
He never E-mailed his Trip Report to me, either.
